Hi everyone! I am Giovanni Buizza Avanzini and this is my website. I created this essential page manly to give some quick info about me, to show my research interests and to host some teaching materials. Enjoy!

In December 2015, I received a Ph. D. degree in Information Technology from Politecnico di Milano. I carried out my Ph. D. studies from November 2012 to December 2015 at the Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria (DEIB) of Politecnico di Milano. In particular, I worked on industrial robots within the MeRLIn research group, with a specific focus on constrained optimal control of mobile manipulators in dynamic environments. Before joining the PhD program, in 2012 I received the Master of Science "cum laude" in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano. My thesis was developed as part of the EU-funded ROSETTA project, and regarded the development and testing of a distributed distance sensor to be used for active control of safety in human-robot interaction in industrial environments. In 2010 I received my Bachelor Degree "cum laude" from Politecnico di Milano, again in Mechanical Engineering.
After the Ph. D., I left the Academia for taking a very exciting working opportunity by joining the Global Technical Trainee Programme of DNV GL, a company providing services for classification, technical assurance, software and independent expert advisory to the maritime, oil & gas and energy industries.
As a Global Technical Trainee, I spent two years in four different DNV GL offices around the world (in Italy, Japan, the Netherlands and Norway), learning the core activities of DNV GL while using my expertise to help the company with its digitalization process.
Since September 2017 I am back in DNV GL's office in Milano, where I am applying all the experience I gained in the past two years in verification activities and advisory for digitalization.
Besides research and engineering, I have quite a number of other interests. From time to time I will post about them here.
